Two, the next step for Vitra.
This is a client project for Vitra. Understanding the core philosophies, principles and aesthetics of the brand and translating in into the audio market.
This speaker is a confluence between the austere beauty and flow of Vitra's products, and the playful attitude they seem to be steering towards as a brand.
Featuring an extremely minimal design, this speaker is made from pressure moulded plywood offcuts. Inspired by one of their core philosophies "Purity is the single-minedness of function," this speaker has no digital interface, just a integrated wifi reciever utilised directly by smartphone applications such as Apple Music or Spotify.
I began by designing the furniture that would fit around the speaker element and trying to get a feel for how a designer working for Vitra draws inspiration.
I was designing for a range of products, which would be built up over a long period of time. This would've been a modular system which would fit each customer.
Turning away from the traditional way of compartmentalizing function, I realized that the modern listener is more likely to appreciate the simplicity of a beautifullly designed peice, than the consumer of the past who wanted every bit and every bob for their hifi system.
